WHAT IF...

 EVENTS

  • If penicillin had never existed, it is likely that we would simply have relied on the sulfa drug. The medical and scientific communities would have undoubtedly developed stronger and more sophisticated sulfonamides to treat more complex diseases as they evolved.

  • If the asteroid had never fallen, some researchers believe that, with or without an asteroid, the dinosaurs would have ended up disappearing. It would also have been a catastrophe and species would have become extinct, but some large dinosaurs would have survived.

  • If technology did not exist, no business would be in constant communication with its customers, it would be difficult to resolve doubts, to know what they like, and if the product or service provided meets their needs. Brands would not be recognized in other countries, therefore there would be little economic growth.

PERSONAL EVENT

If it hadn't been for the covid-19 pandemic, I would have traveled, partied, shared with my family, my friends, trained outdoors without having to worry about wearing a mask to avoid catching that virus that in some cases can be deadly.

ILLUSTRATION YOUR LIFE

The importance of language is vital for the human being since it allows him to establish communication with other living beings and thus live in community. If the human being did not have some language system, then he could not put together projects in common with other individuals, which is precisely the essence of life in society or as a whole. Those cases of human beings who did not need language throughout their lives are those very unique cases in which a child grew up in the jungle or in natural environments and never learned any type of language or language.

One of the elements that distinguish human beings from other living beings is the ability to communicate in a systematic and understandable way, that is, using language. Language is a complex system of both phonetic and written symbols that allows the communication of ideas, thoughts, feelings and different situations between two or more people. Since prehistoric times, human beings have had different, more or less complex forms of language, although it only became written in 3000 BC, a situation that profoundly favored the establishment of languages or forms of communication that were more accessible to all.

The importance of language lies in the fact that words and communication between people are essential for all aspects and all kinds of interactions in everyday life. We always use language as a tool for information and communication between the people around us and through language is how we can express what we feel, what we want and understand, a little better if possible, the world around us.

BUSINESS

Both body and verbal language play an important role in people's lives. In the business world, this factor is more crucial and has greater value than the money that entrepreneurs own.

Language is defined as the ability of any human being to communicate with their peers. Within this context we can find two types of language, the body and the verbal. Importance of body language in the business world.

Both languages complement each other and one depends on the other. The union of both allows an effective communication of the emotions that are being lived and therein lies its importance.

These types of languages allow you to identify the interlocutor if the person is willing to do business. Likewise, it can be shown if the person is bored with the topic under discussion.

TOURISM SECTOR

Controlling different languages has long become an indispensable tool within the tourism sector. And it is that, the massive arrival of international tourists in recent years has increased the need to achieve a global communication that goes from the interaction between professionals worldwide to customer service.

Most demanded languages within the industry

Currently we find a series of languages that dominate the sector due to the upward trend of this international tourism:

English
There is no doubt that English is the base language of every tourism business and the international reference language. Therefore, mastering it on a professional level and offering information translated into this language is practically mandatory.

Spanish
It is our official language… and it is fortunate! Today it is the second most spoken language in the world and one of the most necessary languages for the tourism sector. According to the Cervantes Institute, there are already 572 million Spanish speakers.

MASLINE ZIMBABWE

RAISING YOUR VOICE FOR EQUALITY

MASLINE ZIMBABWE

Masline is a dedicated student and excels at her high school near Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. She is part of Plan International's Empowered Girls program, where she was one of the first 50 girl ambassadors chosen to represent all the girls in her town and speak out for her rights.

Thanks to her education, Masline knows she has a brighter future ahead of her. But the reality is that millions of girls around the world are forced to drop out of school due to child marriages, teenage pregnancies or the violence they suffer, and they are also invisible to governments and legislators. Plan International is working to make the realities of all girls visible so that they are taken into account and can change their future, like Masline.

The cost of education is another barrier that stops girls in Masline’s community from following their ambitions. “I’ve experienced some challenges going to school. Without the help of Plan International I couldn’t have got through secondary school. They pay 75% of my school fees,” she says.

The human, the first threat?

 The human, the first threat?

Humanity is living in confidence but is wrong in believing that natural resources are infinite. We are in a "planetary" deficit because we use 50% more than what planet Earth can give us. We devour resources tremendously.

The future is daunting if we do not change course, it would be two planets that we will need, (if not more) and if we think that by 2050, when a population of 9 billion requires food, energy, housing and water next to the coexistence with the rest of the living beings on the planet… the situation turns ant-colored.

We are a large population that is rapidly growing, that as the quality of life increases (in a few) more pressure is created on the forests, overfishing becomes latent, we pollute rivers, lakes, deforest, we generate pollution and, needless to say, the bulk of the population, the poor who must survive and will do what instinct allows them.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

  •  More responsible agriculture!
  •  Take care of the forests!
  • Responsible consumption of water!
  • Less polluting!
  •  Reduce food waste!

AREPA

Arepas colombianas de maiz con queso

The arepa is part of the basic and traditional foods of Colombian cuisine. The main ingredient is corn in different varieties, depending on the region where they consume it. For example, in the department of Antioquia, it is generally made of white corn and in the Santander region of yellow corn. It is a fairly versatile product in the kitchen, so do not be surprised to find dozens of types of arepas.

INGREDIENTS.

  • 2 cups of precooked cornmeal
  • 4 cups warm water
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of oil

PREPARATION:
1. Spread the oil in a large skillet and put it in the kitchen over medium-high heat.
2. Place the water and a pinch of salt in a bowl; Gradually add flour and stir with a spoon. Wait about three minutes until the dough takes a little consistency. Then knead it vigorously until it does not stick to the edges of the container. There should be no lump.
3.  Form spheres the size of an orange and then crush them with the palms of your hands until you get circular arepas about ten centimeters in diameter.
4. Put them in the pan and cook with a lid for about 5 minutes; Uncover and back to the arepas. If you want the very crispy arepas, you can put them in the oven for about 10 minutes over medium heat 180 ° C. The arepas will bulge slightly and if you tap them gently they will make a hollow sound.
